Shepard's diagram is a ternary diagram where the components  A,B and C- (summing to 100%) are the percentages of sand, silt, and clay comprising a sediment sample.  In 1954 Shepard - in order to classify sediment samples,  divided a ternary diagram into ten classes in which can be seen as different colored areas in the ternary diagram
