Welcome to the Preparation of Solution Calculator, a powerful and user-friendly tool designed to assist you in preparing chemical solutions with precise concentrations. Whether you are working with molarity, molality, weight percentages, or mole fractions, this calculator simplifies your workflow by automatically converting between units and providing detailed preparation instructions.
How to Use the Calculator
Select a Substance
Begin by selecting a substance from the dropdown list in the
Select a Substance frame. This selection determines the chemical
properties and density data used for calculations.
Input Concentration
In the Concentration frame, enter a concentration value in one of
the six available fields:
Molarity (mol/L)
Molality (mol/kg solvent)
% Weight/Weight % w/w is shorthand for the unit: g / (100 g)
% Weight/Volume % w/v is shorthand for the unit: g / (100 mL)
Mole Fraction
Density (g/mL)
Once you input a value in any of these fields, all other concentration units will be automatically calculated and displayed. There is no need to press a "Calculate" button updates happen instantly with every key press.
Concentration Frame
Automatic Calculations:
Inputting any concentration value updates all other concentration
units immediately.
Density Integration:
The density field shows the density of the aqueous solution at the
given concentration. This is calculated using an internal density
database specific to each substance.
Density-Only Calculations:
You can also calculate all concentrations by entering only the
density of the solution, leveraging the built-in density database.
Density Plot:
To the right of the concentration input fields, a dynamic plot
illustrates the relationship between density and w/w%
concentration.
The plot features an interpolated curve based on stored density data.
A horizontal red line indicates the density corresponding to the currently entered concentration.
Adding New Substances:
Click the Density Data button to open a modal window where you can
add new substances to the database.
Enter the substance name and chemical formula (the formula weight is calculated automatically).
Add density data points in w/w% vs. g/mL units.
Use the Draw/Redraw button to visualize the density data graphically.
Amount Frame
This frame contains four input fields to specify the amount of
solution or solute:
Vsolu. Volume of solution (mL)
msolu. Mass of solution (grams)
mass Mass of solute (grams)
n Number of moles of solute
You can fill in any of these fields to define the quantity of solution or solute you want to prepare or work with.
Preparation of Solution Dilution Procedure
Using Pure Substances
When valid values exist in both the Concentration and Amount
frames, this section will automatically generate detailed
instructions on how to prepare the solution by diluting pure
substances. The instructions include:
Quantities of solute and solvent needed
Preparation guidance
Preparation of Solution From Stock
Concentration Dilution Procedure
If you want to prepare a solution using a stock solution of a
selected substance:
Enter the stock concentration and select its unit on the left side of this frame.
Once valid concentration and amount values are provided, the tool will generate instructions on how to dilute the stock solution to achieve the desired concentration.
Additional Notes
Real-Time Calculations:
No need to press a "Calculate" button all calculations update
automatically as you type.
